I tend to use Fireworks to create my web visuals. I find it to be quicker than Photoshop and more suited to a pixel based design medium. It's a great programme but it does have some flaws. One of which is the Dash stroke style that can be a applied to vector shapes and lines. I always find the individual dashes to be too long which doesn't mimick the behaviour of most modern browsers whose border-style: dashed
CSS property has short dashes.
For a long time I wasn't aware that it was possible to customise the styling of strokes. There is a way however, and it's hidden under Stroke Options => Advanced in the "Stroke category" menu. In the dialog that appears, simply navigate to the "Options" tab and at the bottom you will notice "Dash" options where you can set the length and spacing of the individual dashes.
There's also tonnes more options there to play with and most Stroke types have options you can set. Give it go!
