What exactly is a Digital Agency?

The honest answer? It can mean different things to different people. But that’s not much help is it, so let us make the question more meaningful: Deep Blue Sky is a Digital Agency, so we can now ask the question, What exactly is Deep Blue Sky - or more usefully - What exactly does Deep Blue Sky do?

In a nutshell, Deep Blue Sky focuses on producing highly creative work from our clients’ briefs. We use our design and technical knowledge to carry out and often improve upon the ideas and briefs with which we are provided. We merge this creative and technical expertise into everything we do.

In more concrete terms, Deep Blue Sky provide a variety of services including the following:

• pure design work - both creating from scratch and re-designing existing material, for the web and for mobile devices
• creative consultancy - we use our experience to produce innovative and insightful solutions to clients’ needs taking into account the client’s wider strategy
• implementation - only one word but it encompasses a lot, from writing server systems to the end results displayed in users’ web browsers or mobile devices
• bespoke business software - fulfilling the individual needs of businesses to improve their efficiency
• hosting and maintenance - dealing with all of those highly technical issues that you just don’t want to have to consider, let alone deal with!

So our personal definition of a Digital Agency is a company that provides creative and technical development for interactive screen-based products and services.

Having told you what Deep Blue Sky does and is, it is useful to let you know that there are other kinds of Digital Agencies out there whose primary focus is on other activities such as marketing or advertising, or on branding, or are geared more to the artistic than the technological. It is important when you engage with a Digital Agency that you understand what their strengths and weaknesses are, because not all Digital Agencies are the same.
